How the tool reaches a conservative answer.

The system is designed to expose uncertainty, cite manufacturer information, and avoid claims that require physical testing.

Compatibility engine

Five checks shape each verdict.

Hotend threshold

The printer’s documented maximum must meet the material family’s minimum nozzle temperature.

Bed threshold

The printer’s documented bed maximum must meet the material family’s minimum bed temperature.

Enclosure requirement

A required enclosure is treated as a hard constraint. A recommended enclosure becomes a visible warning.

Abrasive hardware

Filled materials require verified wear-resistant hardware. A standard nozzle receives an upgrade verdict; a hardened nozzle does not by itself verify the extruder gears or full feed path.

Explicit exclusions

A printer maker’s not-recommended list can override otherwise adequate temperature numbers.

Verdict meanings

A status is a preflight screen—not a promise of print quality.

compatible

Core hardware checks pass. Moisture, tuning, ventilation, and exact formulation still matter.

conditional

The pairing may work, but a soft constraint such as enclosure, moisture, or feed path needs attention.

upgrade needed

Temperature checks pass, but the current hardware is not verified for an abrasive formulation.

not compatible

At least one hard constraint fails or the printer maker explicitly advises against the material.

Interpreting the shortlist

Keep the conditions attached to the answer.

Compatibility uses a family-level temperature screen, not proof that every formulation in that family fits. Passing the lower end of a range does not mean the printer can run every manufacturer profile. Drying references name their source separately because a printing temperature is not a drying instruction.

All relevant warnings remain visible even when a hard limit fails or an upgrade is required. The dissolvable-support shortlist contains PVA/BVOH and HIPS only; support chemistry, model-material adhesion, and multi-material hardware still need confirmation.

The dryer matcher does not invent a temperature for an unspecified formulation. A reported temperature range that straddles the target is marked conditional, and automatic material systems carry setup-dependent heating and feeding caveats. These checks do not measure chamber uniformity or validate spool dimensions.

What is deliberately excluded

The tool does not know everything.

  • It does not create a slicer profile or guarantee adhesion, strength, finish, or dimensional accuracy.
  • It does not infer food safety, medical suitability, electrical safety, or ventilation requirements.
  • It does not claim that listed dryers were personally tested.
  • It does not treat a family-level drying temperature as universal when the brand data sheet differs.
  • It cannot detect modifications, wear, counterfeit parts, firmware changes, or regional product revisions.
