PLA filament drying temperature: 45–60°C official examples
PLA does not have one universal drying temperature. Prusa publishes 45°C for Prusament PLA, Bambu Lab publishes 50°C or 55°C for PLA Basic depending on the method, Polymaker publishes 55°C for PolyLite PLA, and Creality's current PLA family guidance reaches 60°C. Keep the product, method, time, and spool limit attached to every number.
The four official sources reviewed here span 45–60°C. A controlled dryer that covers that range can meet these examples on paper, but the purchased spool's current instruction decides the exact setting. Low-temperature control and spool safety matter more than buying the hottest appliance.

What temperature should PLA filament be dried at?
Use the exact product instruction. The official examples on this page span 45°C to 60°C, with different times and methods rather than one universal PLA preset.
Does PLA always need drying?
No. A properly stored spool that prints cleanly may not need a recovery cycle. Drying is a more useful controlled test after humid exposure or repeatable moisture-linked symptoms.
Can PLA be damaged by drying?
Yes. Excessive heat can soften filament or deform a spool. Prusa explicitly warns against exceeding its listed temperatures and notes extra precautions for an older spool design above 45°C.

Capable, but excessive for ordinary PLA alone. Its 35–110°C range covers PLA, but the high-temperature engineering workflow and two-spool size are unnecessary if 45–60°C PLA is the only job.
A maximum is a rejection screen, not a performance test. It does not prove chamber uniformity, recovery time, sensor accuracy, or the temperature at the center of a loaded spool.

Brand, formulation, fillers, pigments, and spool construction can change the approved temperature, time, and method.
Dry because there is a reason.
Use storage history, popping, bubbles, rough extrusion, or a controlled comparison instead of treating every PLA spool as wet.
Protect the filament and the reel.
Confirm low-temperature control and the spool's heat tolerance; never default to the dryer's maximum setting.
